How Far Can You Get Without Going To The Cleft First?
Written by Wlayton27
This is not a topic for beginners or first-time players. This is just something to try with an alternate avatar once you have already seen just about everything there is to see in the game's main ages.
It requires the help of a buddy (or private age invites from an alternate avatar that has already completed the Path of the Hand).
Let's start with the Teledahn age. You can get the Teledahn age book in a few different ways. The easiest way is grab a copy of the "Teledahn dock" page by touching the bahro stone near the gate to the broken walkway at the ferry terminal. This will add the Teledahn book to your relto bookshelf, but you'll quickly notice that the linking panel on the first page is "hazed out" in the same manner your relto book becomes nonfunctional in the bahro caves.
The most difficult way to get the Teledahn book is to visit a buddy's relto and use their "Sharper's office" link from the D'ni Ae'gura book (brown book with the tree on the spine). The best method is to get an invite to somebody else's instance of Teledahn, make your way to Sharper's office from the hut, and link back to Teledahn from the book in that office. You can also get the "stump" dead end link page for Teledahn by using the bahro stone in Sharper's office. You should note that you can only get to Sharper's upstairs office in your own personal instance of Teledahn and you can not use the elevator because your power is off. You can, however, use the journey cloth in that office to add the journey cloth page to your Teledahn book (unfortunately you must touch each journey cloth in your own instance of the age in order to save that location on the cloth page of the book in your bookshelf).
Gahreesen has a small separated portion of the age only accessible through the bahro stone under a staircase in Teledahn. Once you visit Teledahn using an invite from a friend, you can use that bahro stone to add the Gahreesen age to your relto bookshelf. Again, the linking image will be fogged out on the first page, but the second page with the prison cell will have a working link. You can touch the journey cloths there to add a journey cloth page to that book as well. Unfortunately there is no way (except perhaps by "glitching" or "zipping") to get to the main portions of your own instance of Gahreesen, so you may want to get an invite to somebody else's Gahreesen age in order to explore and collect the goodies (relto page, bahro stone, and sparkly) that await you there.
Kadish Tolesa is a very unique age in that it is immediately accessible to any player, even if they haven't received their KI or nexus book. It is also completely accessible (except of course for the first page of the linking book) without any need of the Kadish pedestal in relto. Simply go to your hood and use the bahro stone in front of the nexus book to get to D'ni Ae'gura's Tokota courtyard area. The canyon is just down the stairs on the left of the great stair, and inside the Kadish gallery is the linking book to the first telescope of Kadish Tolesa. I recommend that you link directly back to the gallery and back again in order to add the Kadish gallery link to your bookshelf's D'ni Ae'gura book. You can use the cloths to add the cloth page to your Kadish book back on relto, and you can work your way to the Kadish vault and add the second (empty) vault page to your Kadish book. You can also head back to D'ni Ae'gura's library and add the third page (top of pyramid) to the book.
Finally, Eder Gira. Only accessible by invite from another avatar. You can work your way to the linking book to Eder Kemo and add the Eder Kemo book (complete with linking image on the first page) to your relto bookshelf. The journey cloths will add the cloth page to the book as expected, and the link back to Eder Gira will add the Eder Gira book to your relto bookshelf (this book has a hazy block instead of the linking image on the page). Touching the cloths in your instance of Eder Gira (only accessible through your Eder Kemo) will add the cloth page to the Eder Gira book and allow you to explore the age as if you got the book from the relto pedestal.
Of course, all of the other books in your bookshelf will be available to you as you explore D'ni Ae'gura and the nexus (except of course for the cleft book). You can also get all of the pages for these books. What you cannot do is collect the calendar sparklys, the birds relto page, or of course the pedestal relto page.
You can enter the bahro caves after touching all of the journey cloths in each age (the age with the journey cloth doesn't have to be your private age for that cloth to count towards your seven; you also don't have to use the bahro cave exit from your own private age.) You will find that Yeesha is much less talkative than usual (except for the first time that you enter the bahro cave; in which case she talks her mouth off). You can press the hand in the bahro cave to dissolve the pillar, but "where does it go?" you may ask ... you don't have a pedestal in your relto to receive the pillar. This question is answered in a very timely fashion as the pillar materializes back in the bahro cave a second after it dissolves. You will not get the section of the stone ring on your relto's "well" because you didn't "officially" liberate the bahro pillar from the cave. There is a symbol on the floor that you can make out through the dim light. No harm in taking these down into your KI journal for future reference, but you have to go to the cleft in order to reach the imager.
Now to the cleft. You might as well go ahead and collect all the items here and play Yeesha's message so you can open the tree. No harm done as long as you don't pick up the relto page for the pedestals from the cave under the tree. You can try adding the combination you found from the bahro caves into the imager ... nothing. It's as if the imager doesn't recognize that combination. Well, that was anticlimactic. The combination for Yeesha's rewards will not work until you have returned to the cleft via the fissure on relto ... you can't open the fissure until you've released the bahro ... you can't release the bahro until you've liberated the pillars from D'ni Rudenna ... you can't liberate the pillars unless you have pedestals on your relto waiting to welcome them. But now that you have the calendar page for your relto you can go ahead and collect the sparklys from all of the ages in the Path of the Hand. You should have done everything but collect Yeesha's rewards and the rain and pedestal relto pages. You have everything except for Atrus' D'ni goggles and the rainy cleft book. Not bad for somebody who hasn't even officially started the journey. Go ahead and show off your beautiful new relto complete with the open cleft pillar in the center. Good work getting this far.
